suzette s asked: If you are hay bale gardening, tell me what plants are working for you and what plants aren’t. Do you have any helpful tips about hay bale gardening?
I started doing this 3 years ago and I love it! It is so much easier than regular gardening. You’re further off the ground, there are far fewer weeds and pests, it takes less water, you don’t have to “till” and the old hay turns into compost when you’re done!
Thanks!

Kate asked: My fiance and I recently moved into our first home. Our grass has finally begun to come up and we were wondering about some ideas on what to plant. We both have full time jobs and not alot of time to work in the garden. Any suggestions? (I really like my yard to be colorful). And if you do have suggestions, could you please give me a step-by-step run-down of how to plant and take care of them?

Ben asked: I got a graze on my shin and knee from skidding on artificial grass, the next day I noticed it was infected so went and got some antibiotics from the pharmacist. 2 days later it was even more swollen so I went to see a doctor and he said the swelling was from the original fall (even though I told him I didn’t fall hard at all). They didn’t do a blood test or give me any intravenous antibiotics.
A scab still hasn’t formed over the worst part, and it is 5 days later and I’ve nearly finished my course of antibiotics, and it is still quite hot and red. Also I woke up with a sty on my eyelid. Could the infections be linked? Do I have cellulitis? Is it possible I have MRSA? ( I read an article correlating astroturf burns and MRSA)
Thanks for your help

VisionedJellyfish asked: I am looking to build a dog run for out 3 yr old Bijon/Poodle Mix. I would prefer natural grass, as I am not sure he would do his business on artificial grass, but I am happy to be proven wrong..so any thought on this would be greatly appreciated
Also, is there any type of fencing that would be appropriate for a dog of this size? Logic dictates that the narrower the fencing is, the less likely he is go be able to squeeze though but, again, any thoughts from the community would be very welcome.
I look forward to your thoughts on this, so that he can have his own yard and no have to negotiate the dog crap that other owners in our community can’t be bothered to pick up (which is why a lot of people take there dogs out at night…so they can do it under cover of darkness!).
Having a nice yard for him would solve this problem for all concerned.
Thank you, in advance, for your advice

mom23boys asked: I’m a novice gardener and I’m interested in starting a vegetable garden next year, but would need to do it in containers. Do you have any book recommendations for container gardening? I’m also looking for suggestions on how to get started and what would be easy to grow in containers. Thanks!

Sony Bravia asked: Hello!
I have a 5 year old Pug who was crate trained, so he is trained to go outside on command.
I’ve now moved into an apartment, with a balcony, and was hoping to use a dog litter tray?
I bought a pet loo, with the artificial grass on top, and he uses that fine, but I find it isn’t very hygienic, as he loves to sleep on the artificial grass (in the corner he doesn’t *** on)! So would like to use a dog litter tray . . .
I bought a dog litter tray from Purina, but he hated stepping on the litter pellets, so I put newspaper on top of the litter. Problem is that now he likes to sleep on the newspaper, and does his business on the balcony floor (so I’m continually washing up the balcony floor). I wiped up some wee with newspaper and put that in the tray, but he will still sleep in the tray.
Has anyone had experience training their outside trained dog to use dog litter? Do you use the litter pellets or newspaper?
Thanks for your help!

SSZ asked: I have a 18 week old chihuahua and cannot seem to potty train him. I have tried to use pads and he will use them when he is in an enclosed area such as the bathroom or inside his gate but he does not use the pad when he is free to roam around the house. Desperate to potty train him, I have bought the potty patch (artificial grass on a tray) but that hasn’t worked either.
I live in an apartment but I do take him outside and he knows that if he goes, he will get a treat when we go upstairs. I am desperate to find a solution because I **** to put him in the master bath when we are gone when I could just let him roam around the house all day. PLEASE HELP!!!
No I do not crate him and feel bad to do so since he would have to stay in a crate for an extended amount of time.

MoodyGem asked: I have read many articles that suggest using old tires for container gardening. My father is considering making a vegetable garden out of tires. Does the tire pollute the soil and there fore the vegetables? I it is bad to burn tires.. Should I be concerned about the quality of the vegetables? Have you seen any scientific evidence about this topic? Or environmental tests?

I am probably going to fence off the chickens…. so should we go for a relaying of new turf or splash out on artificial lawn?
