Building a doy run/yard?

VisionedJellyfish asked:

I am looking to build a dog run for out 3 yr old Bijon/Poodle Mix. I would prefer natural grass, as I am not sure he would do his business on artificial grass, but I am happy to be proven wrong..so any thought on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, is there any type of fencing that would be appropriate for a dog of this size? Logic dictates that the narrower the fencing is, the less likely he is go be able to squeeze though but, again, any thoughts from the community would be very welcome.

I look forward to your thoughts on this, so that he can have his own yard and no have to negotiate the dog crap that other owners in our community can’t be bothered to pick up (which is why a lot of people take there dogs out at night…so they can do it under cover of darkness!).

Having a nice yard for him would solve this problem for all concerned.

Thank you, in advance, for your advice :)

If you have a nutural grass yard, surround it with a chain link fence of a height high enough to keep the dog from jumping over

I don’t know if you’re in australia but here is what I suggest anyway.
Get Sir Walter Grass (turf) its better turf yes its more expensive but its drought resistant and its a nicer grass it tends to be thicker (blades of grass are wider) and I’ve never seen a dog have adverse reactions to it (or allergic reactions)
I always suggest a colourbond fence as some dogs can become climbers if given a chance (using chicken wire is a good way to encourage climbing) Obviously if you want to use wood palings make sure it is narrow so for example instead of 5cm gaps only make 2.5cm or less.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, so to speak……….just pick up a dog kennel kit at Lowe’s or Home Depot. They have one that is around 8′x12′ by six feet high for around $220.
