GaRDENING>>>>>>>?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010
Kate asked:

My fiance and I recently moved into our first home. Our grass has finally begun to come up and we were wondering about some ideas on what to plant. We both have full time jobs and not alot of time to work in the garden. Any suggestions? (I really like my yard to be colorful). And if you do have suggestions, could you please give me a step-by-step run-down of how to plant and take care of them?

Building a doy run/yard?

VisionedJellyfish asked:

I am looking to build a dog run for out 3 yr old Bijon/Poodle Mix. I would prefer natural grass, as I am not sure he would do his business on artificial grass, but I am happy to be proven wrong..so any thought on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, is there any type of fencing that would be appropriate for a dog of this size? Logic dictates that the narrower the fencing is, the less likely he is go be able to squeeze though but, again, any thoughts from the community would be very welcome.

I look forward to your thoughts on this, so that he can have his own yard and no have to negotiate the dog crap that other owners in our community can’t be bothered to pick up (which is why a lot of people take there dogs out at night…so they can do it under cover of darkness!).

Having a nice yard for him would solve this problem for all concerned.

Thank you, in advance, for your advice :)

Is gardening with tires bad for the environment?

Thursday, April 1st, 2010
MoodyGem asked:

I have read many articles that suggest using old tires for container gardening. My father is considering making a vegetable garden out of tires. Does the tire pollute the soil and there fore the vegetables? I it is bad to burn tires.. Should I be concerned about the quality of the vegetables? Have you seen any scientific evidence about this topic? Or environmental tests?

Real lawn or artificial lawn ?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010
Moanymoan asked:

Got an awful lawn which is sheltered by tall pine trees and deciduous trees i.e. lose their leaves, get loads of moss and also got 5 chickens which scuff up what grass we have left !! I am probably going to fence off the chickens…. so should we go for a relaying of new turf or splash out on artificial lawn? What experience has anyone had of artificial lawns we have got 50m2 of lawn to replace. Any suggestions

How do you keep fingernails clean when gardening?

laura D asked:

Does anyone have any “Martha” tips on how to keep nails from looking like an auto mechanics when you are an avid gardener? Martha Stewart suggested to put rubber gloves under gardening gloves, but they make your hands sweat badly! Or, how best to clean “gardener’s hands?” Thanks!

Any recommendations on raised beds for gardening?

Monday, March 15th, 2010
slscville asked:

I’d like to install a raised bed for vegetable gardening this year. I think this will allow me more control over the soil quality. What’s the cheapest and easiest way to go about it? Should I buy one of the ready-made beds available online?
In case I wasn’t clear, the soil is not my concern, it’s the actual bed itself. Should I try to build one, or buy one that snaps together?
