Building a doy run/yard?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010
VisionedJellyfish asked:

I am looking to build a dog run for out 3 yr old Bijon/Poodle Mix. I would prefer natural grass, as I am not sure he would do his business on artificial grass, but I am happy to be proven wrong..so any thought on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, is there any type of fencing that would be appropriate for a dog of this size? Logic dictates that the narrower the fencing is, the less likely he is go be able to squeeze though but, again, any thoughts from the community would be very welcome.

I look forward to your thoughts on this, so that he can have his own yard and no have to negotiate the dog crap that other owners in our community can’t be bothered to pick up (which is why a lot of people take there dogs out at night…so they can do it under cover of darkness!).

Having a nice yard for him would solve this problem for all concerned.

Thank you, in advance, for your advice :)

Backyard Summer Skiing?

Friday, November 13th, 2009
~~Icy~~ asked:

My backyard has a small slant to it. And my friends and I wanted to build a drop-in, a flat, and then a jump. We already have a box, a flat rail, and a circular rail made. We are working on the drop-in which will be made from left over 2×4s and some hockey board (polyethylene/artificial ice/thin slippery plastic) whatever you want to call it. The drop-in will be about 3-4 feet high, and we don’t know what to use for the flat.

I’ve seen several ideas from my research. Such as pvc piping screwed in perpendicular to the way we’ll be skiing/boarding, hockey board, astro turf/artificial grass. But we aren’t sure which one. We plan to be using this setup at least until we head off to college in 5 years, so we want to make sure it’s durable. And won’t force us to build a 10 foot drop in just to make it to the rail. We only need about a 2′x8′ sheet depending on how fast it is. Our budget is up to about $60 depending on how good of a surface it is. Also, please give us a link to where we could buy it.
Thanks.

Synthetic turf association?

Katherine W asked:

Is there an association for manufacturers or installers of artificial turf or synthetic grass? It can be American or international. I have a technical question about installation over a geo-fabric filtering layer and I need an expert opinion.

artificial grass in the dog run?

bubble asked:

I am planning on creating a fence to make our side yard (about 7X25) into a dog run. We have very clay like soil, and some walkway, plants on it right now and with no sun all day long. (we live in southern CA).

There is some suggestion on having rocks/compose to lay the ground. But i was reading it online on artificial grass, that will be able to drain thru (so i can wash it by flushing the urine out, but assuming have to pick up the **** still)

Anyone done this or know if it’s a good idea? My 2 dogs, (12lb maltese and 30 lbs cocker spanial mix) will be there max. of 6 hours a day (on the days i work) with the door to the garage open as well for their use.

Anyone know approximately how much it will cost? and if there is a specific brand (does the brand even make any difference?)

Thank you!
